Stone & Oil
Driveways, parking lots, and other surfaces.
Oil and stone driveways, grading, and excavating for Roxbury and the northern Catskills.
Also called stone and oil, tar and chip, or chip seal.
Northern Catskills
Roxbury is a town in the northern Catskills in Delaware County, with Route 30 running through the valley and the mountains rising close on both sides. Many properties are farms or seasonal homes, with long driveways climbing from the road.
A driveway that climbs a mountainside needs a good pitch and edges that can take a heavy runoff. We set both before anything goes down, and we compact the base to carry the oil and stone.
Services
Properties that are only used part of the year still see all the weather. Oil and stone handles it and does not need regular sealing.
Driveways, parking lots, and other surfaces.
Pitch, slope, and drainage set before any surface goes down.
Walkways, landings, retaining walls, and more.
Topsoil, stone, gravel, and more, Monday through Friday.
We look at the grade and the drainage in person before we quote. Excavating, grade work, concrete retaining walls, and material hauling are available too.
Gravel and stone are sold from our yard in Greene, and delivery is available Monday through Friday. See gravel products
The Process
We set the pitch for drainage and compact a gravel base. Our dump trucks remove dirt and debris from the site.
Hot oil goes down over the compacted base and binds the surface together.
Small stone is spread over the oil and rolled into place for a natural stone finish.
Where We Work
From the hamlet of Roxbury along Route 30 and up the side roads, we cover the area, including Margaretville, Stamford, Andes, and Fleischmanns.
Questions
Oil and stone is also called stone and oil, tar and chip, or chip seal. We compact a gravel base, apply hot oil, spread small stone over it, and roll it into place. The result keeps a natural stone look and is a cost effective alternative to asphalt.

No. Oil and stone does not need regular sealing.
It handles freeze and thaw cycles well. If you plow, keep the blade just above the surface and finish with a shovel. Snowblowers are fine on oil and stone surfaces.

Stone Kote was not only professional but they did an outstanding job on our driveway. Their price was competitive and our driveway went from a loose stone mud pit to a level and new driveway. We would highly recommend this company!
