Stone & Oil
Driveways, parking lots, and other surfaces.
Stone and oil driveways, grading, and excavating for Cooperstown and the country around Otsego Lake.
Also called stone and oil, tar and chip, or chip seal.
Lake Country
Cooperstown sits at the foot of Otsego Lake, where the Susquehanna River begins, with hills and farmland all around. The village has older homes on compact lots. Beyond it the roads wind through rural property, and the driveway can run a long way from the road to the house.
Long driveways take a beating from weather. Water runs down them, frost works on the base, and loose stone drifts toward the low spots. Stone and oil binds the stone in place and handles freeze and thaw cycles well, and it gives you a natural stone finish that looks at home on a country property.
Services
A good result starts with the ground. We check the base, set the pitch so water leaves at the edges instead of running down the middle, and then build the surface. Call for a free on-site quote and we will come out and look at the property.

Walkways, landings, retaining walls, and more.
Topsoil, stone, gravel, and more, Monday through Friday.
Country property usually needs more than a surface. We do excavating and grade work, concrete walkways and landings, dust oil for gravel drives, and material hauling, along with stone and oil driveways.
Gravel and stone are sold from our yard in Greene, and delivery is available Monday through Friday. See gravel products
The Process
We set the pitch for drainage and compact a gravel base. Our dump trucks remove dirt and debris from the site.
Hot oil goes down over the compacted base and binds the surface together.
Small stone is spread over the oil and rolled into place for a natural stone finish.
Where We Work

Questions
Oil and stone is also called stone and oil, tar and chip, or chip seal. We compact a gravel base, apply hot oil, spread small stone over it, and roll it into place. The result keeps a natural stone look and is a cost effective alternative to asphalt.

No. Oil and stone does not need regular sealing.
It handles freeze and thaw cycles well. If you plow, keep the blade just above the surface and finish with a shovel. Snowblowers are fine on oil and stone surfaces.

Stone Kote was not only professional but they did an outstanding job on our driveway. Their price was competitive and our driveway went from a loose stone mud pit to a level and new driveway. We would highly recommend this company!
