Stone & Oil
Driveways, parking lots, and other surfaces.
Oil and stone driveways, grading, and excavating for Andes and the hills of central Delaware County.
Also called stone and oil, tar and chip, or chip seal.
Catskill Hills
Andes is a village in the Catskills in Delaware County, set on a hillside with farms and wooded hills spreading out around it. The roads are winding and hilly, and the driveways follow them.
A winding driveway on a hillside needs care at every turn, because water collects on the outside of a curve and works at the edge. We shape the pitch and the edges to carry water off before it can do damage.
Services
Catskill weather is hard on gravel, which rutted and washed out each spring. Oil and stone holds together through freeze and thaw cycles and keeps the natural stone look.

We handle the earthwork too. Excavating, grade work, concrete walkways and retaining walls, and material hauling are available along with driveways.

The Process
We set the pitch for drainage and compact a gravel base. Our dump trucks remove dirt and debris from the site.
Hot oil goes down over the compacted base and binds the surface together.
Small stone is spread over the oil and rolled into place for a natural stone finish.
Where We Work
From the village of Andes and the roads around it, we cover the area, including Delhi, Margaretville, Roxbury, and Walton.
Questions
Oil and stone is also called stone and oil, tar and chip, or chip seal. We compact a gravel base, apply hot oil, spread small stone over it, and roll it into place. The result keeps a natural stone look and is a cost effective alternative to asphalt.

No. Oil and stone does not need regular sealing.
It handles freeze and thaw cycles well. If you plow, keep the blade just above the surface and finish with a shovel. Snowblowers are fine on oil and stone surfaces.

Stone Kote was not only professional but they did an outstanding job on our driveway. Their price was competitive and our driveway went from a loose stone mud pit to a level and new driveway. We would highly recommend this company!
