Stone & Oil
Driveways, parking lots, and other surfaces.
Stone and oil driveways, grading, and excavating for the town of Hector and the east side of Seneca Lake.
Also called stone and oil, tar and chip, or chip seal.
East Shore Town
Hector is a large rural town in Schuyler County, stretching from the east shore of Seneca Lake up onto the ridge above it. Burdett and Valois are inside the town, and the Finger Lakes National Forest takes up a piece of the hills on top.
Driveways here can run long, and a lot of them are gravel. Long gravel drives wash out and rut, and they need regrading. Stone and oil holds the stone in place and does not need regular sealing.
Services
On a long drive the pitch and the edges matter as much as the surface, because water running down the middle wears a driveway out. We grade and compact the base first, then apply the oil and stone.

Pitch, slope, and drainage set before any surface goes down.
Walkways, landings, retaining walls, and more.
Topsoil, stone, gravel, and more, Monday through Friday.
Gravel lanes that are not ready for a new surface can get dust oil, which cuts dust and binds loose stone and can be reapplied each year.
Gravel and stone are sold from our yard in Greene, and delivery is available Monday through Friday. See gravel products
The Process
We set the pitch for drainage and compact a gravel base. Our dump trucks remove dirt and debris from the site.
Hot oil goes down over the compacted base and binds the surface together.
Small stone is spread over the oil and rolled into place for a natural stone finish.
Where We Work
From the lakeshore up onto the ridge, we cover the town of Hector, including Burdett and Valois, and the roads running toward Mecklenburg.
Questions
Oil and stone is also called stone and oil, tar and chip, or chip seal. We compact a gravel base, apply hot oil, spread small stone over it, and roll it into place. The result keeps a natural stone look and is a cost effective alternative to asphalt.

It handles freeze and thaw cycles well. If you plow, keep the blade just above the surface and finish with a shovel. Snowblowers are fine on oil and stone surfaces.

Stone Kote was not only professional but they did an outstanding job on our driveway. Their price was competitive and our driveway went from a loose stone mud pit to a level and new driveway. We would highly recommend this company!
