Stone & Oil
Driveways, parking lots, and other surfaces.
Oil and stone driveways, grading, and excavating for Otego and the Susquehanna valley between Unadilla and Oneonta.
Also called stone and oil, tar and chip, or chip seal.
Between Unadilla and Oneonta
Otego is a village in Otsego County on the Susquehanna River, with Route 7 and Interstate 88 running through the valley between Unadilla and Oneonta. Farmland covers the valley floor, and steep hills rise on both sides.
The hillsides here are steep, and the driveways cut into them move a lot of water. We set the pitch and the edges to carry it off, and we compact the base before the oil and stone go down.
Services
Gravel drives on a slope rut and wash with every hard rain. Oil and stone holds the stone in place, handles freeze and thaw cycles, and keeps its natural look.
Driveways, parking lots, and other surfaces.
Pitch, slope, and drainage set before any surface goes down.
Walkways, landings, retaining walls, and more.
Topsoil, stone, gravel, and more, Monday through Friday.
We look at each property in person, measure the drive, and quote from the prep work and the square footage. Excavating, grade work, and gravel hauling are available as well.

The Process
We set the pitch for drainage and compact a gravel base. Our dump trucks remove dirt and debris from the site.
Hot oil goes down over the compacted base and binds the surface together.
Small stone is spread over the oil and rolled into place for a natural stone finish.
Questions
Oil and stone is also called stone and oil, tar and chip, or chip seal. We compact a gravel base, apply hot oil, spread small stone over it, and roll it into place. The result keeps a natural stone look and is a cost effective alternative to asphalt.

No. Oil and stone does not need regular sealing.
It handles freeze and thaw cycles well. If you plow, keep the blade just above the surface and finish with a shovel. Snowblowers are fine on oil and stone surfaces.

Stone Kote was not only professional but they did an outstanding job on our driveway. Their price was competitive and our driveway went from a loose stone mud pit to a level and new driveway. We would highly recommend this company!
