Stone & Oil
Driveways, parking lots, and other surfaces.
Oil and stone driveways, grading, and excavating for Port Crane and the Chenango River valley.
Also called stone and oil, tar and chip, or chip seal.
Chenango Valley
Port Crane is a small hamlet in the Chenango River valley north of Binghamton, in the Town of Fenton. The valley floor is flat farmland and homes, and the hillsides above it have longer driveways cut into the slope.
Flat ground near a river holds water longer, so drainage is the main thing to plan for on the valley floor. On the hillsides the same water moves fast. We set the pitch and the edges first and compact the base before any oil or stone goes down.
Services
Port Crane is a short drive south of our office and yard in Greene. We look at the property in person, measure the drive, and give you a quote based on the prep work and the square footage.
Driveways, parking lots, and other surfaces.
Pitch, slope, and drainage set before any surface goes down.
Walkways, landings, retaining walls, and more.
Topsoil, stone, gravel, and more, Monday through Friday.
If a gravel lane is not ready for a new surface yet, dust oil cuts dust and binds loose stone, and it can be reapplied each year. Excavating and grade work are available too.
Gravel and stone are sold from our yard in Greene, and delivery is available Monday through Friday. See gravel products
The Process
We set the pitch for drainage and compact a gravel base. Our dump trucks remove dirt and debris from the site.
Hot oil goes down over the compacted base and binds the surface together.
Small stone is spread over the oil and rolled into place for a natural stone finish.
Where We Work
From the hamlet of Port Crane along the river, we cover the lower Chenango valley, including Chenango Bridge, Binghamton, and Greene.
Questions
Oil and stone is also called stone and oil, tar and chip, or chip seal. We compact a gravel base, apply hot oil, spread small stone over it, and roll it into place. The result keeps a natural stone look and is a cost effective alternative to asphalt.

No. Oil and stone does not need regular sealing.
It handles freeze and thaw cycles well. If you plow, keep the blade just above the surface and finish with a shovel. Snowblowers are fine on oil and stone surfaces.

Stone Kote was not only professional but they did an outstanding job on our driveway. Their price was competitive and our driveway went from a loose stone mud pit to a level and new driveway. We would highly recommend this company!
