Stone & Oil
Driveways, parking lots, and other surfaces.
Oil and stone driveways, grading, and excavating for Cazenovia and the hills around Cazenovia Lake.
Also called stone and oil, tar and chip, or chip seal.
Lake Village
Cazenovia is a village in Madison County at the foot of Cazenovia Lake, with Routes 20 and 13 meeting in the village. Lakeshore homes sit on sloped lots, and the hills above the lake carry long, winding driveways.
Sloped lakeshore lots send runoff toward the water, and long hill drives collect it from above. We set the pitch and the edges to carry water off the surface in a controlled way before we build the oil and stone.
Services
Estate and country properties often have a long drive that matters to the look of the place. Oil and stone keeps the natural stone finish and holds it in place, and it does not need regular sealing.
Driveways, parking lots, and other surfaces.
Pitch, slope, and drainage set before any surface goes down.
Walkways, landings, retaining walls, and more.
Topsoil, stone, gravel, and more, Monday through Friday.
We look at the property in person, measure the drive, and quote it from the prep work and the square footage. Excavating, grade work, concrete, and hauling are available too.
Gravel and stone are sold from our yard in Greene, and delivery is available Monday through Friday. See gravel products
The Process
We set the pitch for drainage and compact a gravel base. Our dump trucks remove dirt and debris from the site.
Hot oil goes down over the compacted base and binds the surface together.
Small stone is spread over the oil and rolled into place for a natural stone finish.
Questions
Oil and stone is also called stone and oil, tar and chip, or chip seal. We compact a gravel base, apply hot oil, spread small stone over it, and roll it into place. The result keeps a natural stone look and is a cost effective alternative to asphalt.

No. Oil and stone does not need regular sealing.
It handles freeze and thaw cycles well. If you plow, keep the blade just above the surface and finish with a shovel. Snowblowers are fine on oil and stone surfaces.

Stone Kote was not only professional but they did an outstanding job on our driveway. Their price was competitive and our driveway went from a loose stone mud pit to a level and new driveway. We would highly recommend this company!
